From New York sidewalks to Paris Fashion Week, from the high street to haute couture runways – these sock boots are this season’s big fashion accessory.
It’s finally that time of year when our Instagram feed is taken over by aesthetically pleasing pictures of pumpkin spice lattés and #sweaterweather OOTDs, and now, it’s also flooded with super cool street style shots of the shoe of the moment — the Balenciaga ‘Knife’ boots.
Even though socks boots had already been in the limelight for a hot second, these babies took this trend to the next level. Designed by Balenciaga’s current creative director, the incredible Demna Gvasalia (the same visionary behind the infamous Vetements waist-high boots), these boots have taken the fashion industry by storm, making waves across social media since they made their debut on the runway last September.
Fresh off the runway, we spotted the ‘Knife’ boots on none other than Kylie Jenner, who donned them in a striking shade of purple, in the over-the-knee version of these beautiful boots. (And yes, we’ve been in love ever since!)
Balenciaga’s ‘Knife’ boots also come in a variety of styles, from ankle boots to over-the-knee, and even a ‘pantashoes’ version that does exactly what it sounds like. And no, we didn’t just make that word up! You can also pick from a variety of different patterns and textures — go bold with moody florals or luxe velvet ones, or stick to the traditional with the classic black jersey pair.
Gvasalia’s creation has become so popular that they’re back again for this season in all new colours and styles. Paris Fashion Week SS ’18 saw the introduction of even more fun and fabulous iterations of these boots and our favourite has to be the iridescent gold metallic pair, as seen below on the gorgeous Alek Wek.
As stunning as they may be, these boots cost a pretty penny (over a thousand dollars to be exact). But don’t fret because we’ve got your back! Check out some (uncannily) similar options we found while hunting the high street so you can get a piece of this cool trend without burning a hole in your pocket.
